Firstly, : Firstly, are your wisdom teeth hurting you? Who told you that you needed them removed? The wisdom teeth probably aren't even full formed yet at your age. To get them out would be a major procedure. Can't understand the rationale of removing them right now from what you described. As a minor, any dentist who would be treating you would require parental consent. Hope this info helps.

I : I agree with dr. Neil mcleod. Unfortunately until you reach the "age of majority" your parents are the responsible decision makers for your health care. Though third molars typically erupt at age 18, you may be developmentally more advanced. I typically recommend evaluation of female patients starting at age 16 1/2 because at that point in time you can get a good idea if the teeth will erupt into a functional and cleanseable position. An argument for early evaluation of these teeth is that extraction of the third molars prior full root development reduces the potential for injury to surrounding structures (nerve and sinus). I recommend that you ask your mother that she take you to a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon for evaluation. You may not be ready for extraction, but you will be able to get an idea if you need them extracted and what the idea timing will be.

Good time to extract: As an orthodontist, I have seen thousands of patients, whom after treatment would benefit from wisdom tooth removal. 16 years of age is not a rare age to have eruption of these teeth. In my opinion, surgical removal would carry less risk and be easier at your age than later. The roots have not completely formed and they would be away from the major nerve below (biggest risk). If no room, 14 years.

Wear the retainer: Wisdom teeth, like any teeth, develop at different rates. Some 13 year olds may have almost fully developed wisdom teeth while some 20 year olds may have wisdom teeth where the roots are just beginning to develop. We prefer to remove wisdom teeth that are indicated for removal before the roots are fully formed. Without parental consent wear your retainers until your mom agrees.

Get information: It's best to make a decision based on facts. I would recommend seeing a wisdom tooth expert, a qualified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, for an examination and a decision as to treatment timing. It may be prudent to wait, but oral surgeon should make that decision. That's what they have all those extra years of training for.
