An enlarged uterus can be caused by endometriosis or adenomyosis, which is endometriosis inside of the uterine wall. Endometriosis is extra uterine lining tissue that is present where it shouldn't be. Rarely, cancerous (malignant) growths can cause uterine enlargement.
