Yes: Nearly everyone who lives long enough will have some degree of osteopenia or osteoporosis. There are three main things to remember: walk, eat correct diet with supplemental vitamin d, ask about bone mineral density testing.

Common: By age 65, 40 percent of women will be in the osteopenic range and 10-20 percent will be in the osteoporotic range. Agree with dr. Yoder regarding calcium (and vitamin d), weight-bearing exercise and screening test from your doctor to prevent fractures.
