A member asked:

My son has a possible burst cyst in his upper outer part of his belly button... is emergency attention necessary? or can he see family doctor on monday?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It : It is not clear from your question exactly what is going on with your son. The area you describe is an unusual place for a "cyst." most cysts are underneath the skin and the most common is a sebaceous cyst. That said, he could be seen as an outpatient as long as he does not have any fever, vomiting, redness, or abdominal pain. If he has drainage of any type, he should seek medical attention since there are other problems that can occur around the belly button that have the potential to be more serious (like a hernia, etc.).
