Antibiotics : Antibiotics are for infections. I doubt you got an infection from a small cut like you described. Unless you become swollen and/or have pus coming out of the wound, i don't think you need to worry. Watch what you eat the next few days to allow the tissue to heal.

It : It sounds like your gum was inflamed before you hit it with the chip. It could be just a local problem like a seed trapped between the gum and a tooth. Or it could be a symptom of more serious periodontal disease. It is never a good idea to take antibiotics needlessly. If the bleeding problem recurs get a diagnosis by a dentist.

I : I know many people have antibiotics at home that they or another member of their family have had prescribed for previous conditions. But antibiotics should not be taken for an apparent new condition except upon the advice of an examing practitioner. It sounds to me that you have an underlying periodontal condition (either localized or generalized ) that requires to be examined by a dentist or periodontist and treated appropriately. Do yourself a favor and make that call.

No. : No. You dont necessarily need antibiotics. The question is why did your gum bleed so much? Are your gums inflammed? Do you see your dentist regularly?
