Amoxicillin : Amoxicillin is a synthetic penicillin, and has a broader spectrum of anti-bacterial activity than penicillin. Penicillin has limited use these days, since so many bacteria have developed an immunity to plain penicillin. For most staph infections, Amoxicillin is combined with something called clavulanic acid, which allows the Amoxicillin to kill staph infections that would otherwise be resistant.
