Penicillin came along first with amoxicillin a similar antibiotic which can sometimes battle more germ types. Antibiotics are either effective at killing a germ or not, not stronger or weaker. The right choice for a given problem is usually based on past experience or lab tests. No antibiotic in existence can kill all bacteria. The right choice is based on the experience/training of the prescriber

Amoxicillin is more effective against a wider spectrum of bacteria than penicillin .There are different brand names for both. Amoxicillin is more likely to cause a rash, both can cause instances of diarrhea, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting.

Amoxicillin is a broader spectrum (covers more bacteria) antibiotic than penicillin, but they are related. If someone is allergic to one, they are considered allergic to both. They are also given with different timing and dosage. Penicillin was discovered prior to amoxicillin, which is partly why it doesn’t treat as many bacteria as amoxicillin.
