It : It is normal to have clips in the area below your liver known as the gallbladder fossa after a laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal). 13 or 24 clips is a lot, however. Normally, most surgeons will have 2-3 clips on what is called the cystic duct stump and on the cystic artery, making 4-6 clips normal. That being said, every patient and every case is different. It is possible that you had what is called "aberrant anatomy" such that you either had extra blood vessels that required more clips, or that you had some large venous sinuses under your liver that were bleeding during surgery and required more clips. If you are more than a few weeks out from your surgery and are doing fine then this probably isn't anything to worry about. In most cases, the complications associated with having your gallbladder removed laparoscopically occur almost immediately after surgery and are readily apparent. There are some less common problems, such as narrowing of your bile duct or occlussion of your hepatic artery that can show up later. If these things happen, they do tend to be associated with cases that are considered more difficult. If you are concerned you should ask the surgeon who did your procedure to explain to you how your surgery went and if you should be concerned, but i suspect you have little to be worried about.

Its : Its not customary to have so many clips but they are used routinely to clamp off the cystic duct as well as cystic artery. On avg, 4 cips are used. But everyone is different and you may have had extenuating circumstances that required more than the usual number.

Technically : Technically speaking, the clips are likely not in your liver but on the surrounding structures near the previous site of the gallbladder. While 13-24 clips seems excessive, one can't make any meaningful comment because none of us were present at your surgery. As long as your bilirubin is normal and no injury to hepatic or bile duct, the actual number of clips is meaningless for all intents and purposes. Ask your surgeon how the surgery went and why the slightly increased number of clips, but don't assume that something bad happened unless you truly are still symptomatic.

I : I agree with the answers below. The average number of clips in the gallbladder fossa area after surgery is less than 10. But again, as the clips are inert, they in and of themselves, shouldn't be a cause of concern. That being said, you might want to just ask the surgeon the details of your surgery, to put your mind at ease.

First : First of all, don't worry. The clips are inert. 13-24 is a wide variation, but not necessarily unreasonable. The important thing is whether you are ok, and it sounds like you are.
