I have pain and slight swelling to the top of my foot and pain that goes up & down the outside of my leg (from knee down). i am 57 female had diabetes (no insulin) and have bone on bone knees (insides only). what can be causing the pain and should i see

Dear : Dear christine (it's so nice when people give their names), considering your pain involves areas beyond just your feet, i would recommend you see an orthopedic surgeon for your pain. If there is a knee problem (as well as a foot one), an orthopedist would be able to put the two issues together for you. Good luck and feel better!

Depends on the cause: Your pain could be as a result of many different things. A thorough history and physical exam and possibly some laboratory and radiology exams are needed to determine the exact cause. Causes of pain may include: trauma (fracture, sprain, arthritis), infection, metabolic conditions (gout), musculoskeletal or biomechanical abnormality and neurologic conditions (neuropathy).
