A member asked:

Does a septoplasty ever leave visible scars? my septum is deviated right near my nostrils, so i assume the incisions would be right at the front, too. does that mean scars might be visible?

The : The septoplasty incision is usually hidden inside the nostril such that it isn't visible. In some instances an open septo-rhinoplasty approach is needed to straighten the septum. This is more likley if the caudal septum (portion closest to the nostrils) is very deviated. Check out my links below to see more details on septoplasty incision placement.

A : A septoplasty is done inside the nose unless there a need to do a rhinoplasty at the same time. Even a septorhinoplasty scar across the columella is barely visible so i don't think you have to worry about a scar. Best wishes dr. Peterson.

Most : Most of the time septoplasty is done from the inside of the nose, so no visible scars. Good luck from nyc. For more info visit www.Drgrossman.Com.

Septoplasty: There are several approaches to septoplasty. For the most part the incisions are intranasal. Have your nose evaluated by a board certified otolaryngologist.
