This : This is something that can be addressed in a routine office visit with your primary care provider. However, if you can't get in to see his doctor and the pain is severe then you should take him to an er or urgent care for evaluation and treatment. It sounds like he is dealing with a pinched/inflammed nerve. He will need pain medication and possibly a steroid (pill or shot). Best of luck.

Orthopedic MD: Have your son see an upper extremity sports medicine orthopedist. Emergency room will do a basic evaluation, and will have you see an orthopedist anyway.
