Hello. : Hello. I do not know the reason for your son's recurrent, severe leg pain. If the pain is so severe that he can't walk, I do recommend that he be seen at the emergency room. There are several issues which are of concern: 1. He was diving prior to his flight and we have no information about his dive profile and 2. He was on a flight for over 13 hours which means he was likely quite inactive at that time. It would be prudent to rule out serious potential causes for his leg pain. Take care.

Dvt: Your son has a deep venous thrombosis until proven otherwise. A long plane flight with pain in the calf is the classic presentation. He should be seen by a physician as soon as possible. This condition can be extremely dangerous and if the blood clot loosens and travels to the lungs it can be fatal.
