Should i be worried about how long it's taking for our son's first tooth to come in? our son will be a year next month, and has yet to have any teeth erupt. our pediatrician says that 6-9 months is just an average and not to be worried yet. is he right? i

Please, : Please, do not be concerned. Every child has a different tooth eruption schedule. Your pediatrician gave you the average... Your son may be just outside the average. Think of it this way: there is nothing you can do to make the teeth erupt faster, so just wait and see. Most likely his permanent teeth will also be a bit late in erupting. That is the usual pattern i see for children who are a little late in getting their baby teeth. Hope thin info helps.

Doctor : Doctor davantzis is right. Your sond's teeth are going to erupt at their own sweet rate, and you are not going to be able to do anything to make that happen faster. The chart they give us in dental school is just an average, and as in all biological systems there is a gaussian distributions of variables, some are ahead of schedule, some are right on time, and some, as seems to be the case with your son are taking longer. Good luck, dr neil mcleod dds dentistry that lasts - quality that counts.

Don't worry: Everyone is different your sons adult teeth will probably erupt late as well but remember everyone has there own timetable. With in a few months of "what should be" enjoy your child.

Be patient: I've had patients with 2 teeth at birth or none until 15 months. Late eruption has nothing to do with dietary deficiency or health problems. There are rare syndromes where few teeth ever come in, but these are easily diagnosed by the physician by other features on exam within the first weeks of life.
