No: Many children do this and it can be concerning for parents. They will often stop doing this on their own, and i wouldn't anticipate any long-term consequences.

2 reasons: 1) kids learn so much daily ; back up this material @ nite while they sleep, increasing muscle activity. 2) kids grow in different places and at different rates, and therefore grind in their occlusion while they sleep. Should be ok. Have occlusion evaluated by orthodontist as a 7th b'day present.

Common occurrence: No, it is common for this age to have night grinding. The baby molars chewing surface is flatter than thee large 6 year permanent molar that will be erupting and these baby molars tend to "slide" more. When the 6 year molars erupt they have a stronger type of "lock and key" bite.
