Hi i am bipolar and i take meds. will workout supplements affect me negatively? i take nitric oxide and creatine and am just wondering if they affect my brain chemistry or how my meds work?

Hello. : Hello. I really hope you have told your psychiatrist that you are using these supplements. If one of my patients with bipolar disorder wanted to use Nitric Oxide and creatine, i would discourage it. Some studies have suggested creatine could cause a depressed bipolar patient to flip into mania or hypomania. Nitric oxide no affects a number of processes in the central nervous system as has been implicated as being involved with bipolar disorder.

Brain is complex: Supplements can easily help and hurt such a condition..The balance of receptor antagonists and agonists is the problem here therefore taking supplements that alter that can easily help and dramatically hurt the process...
