What is this bruise on my neck? i have had this thing come and go for almost a year now. its right where my adams apple would be if i were to be a guy. i do smoke and im wondering if its cancer..

Does : Does it move up and down when you swallow? That could be a thyroglossal duct cyst (a remnant left behind when your thyroid developed when you were an embryo. There are other lumps in the neck that are normal anatomy. We are always concerned about cancer, and you are at higher risk due to your smoking. Other symptoms that make us worried are pain in the throat/mouth, hoarse voice, weight loss, ear pain, bleeding int he throat/mouth or coughing up blood. The fact that it has been there a year, makes those worries pretty low.

No clue: Do not know why you would develop bruising over your thyroid cartilage (it's really present in both men and women, just more prominent in men).
