I have an open abdominal wound that's really deep. the wound causes a lot of pain, but my dr. won't give me anything for pain besides motrin which doesn't help. the dr said i don't need anything stronger. how can i convince him to give me something strong

I : I think you should consult the primary care so that you can be referred to surgeon for possible management of your abdominal wound.Pain medicines for short term may not be a bad idea but it is case specific, you physician is well aware of your condition and you should discuss and see if he can refer to the pain management.

Pain control: You need to see your primary care physician for pain control medications. They are in a better situation to understand your comprehensive medical needs. Most wound care centers have too many physicians rotating through the center for pain medications to be safely written and assessed.

See your PCP: Talk to your primary doctor and set up a regimen for pain medication prior to your wound care. Wound care can be painful. Wound care doctors often defer pain control to he primary doctor.

Primary care: Without knowing more about your wound, talk to primary care dr, if necessary they can discuss further with wound care and if necessary refer you to pain management. Prescription of pain medicines is a very tricky regulatory issue today because so much drug abuse is associated with prescription medications. Many doctors are reluctant to take the risk.
