I was bit by a brown recluse 8 days ago. a hard knot has formed around the bite , is this normal? treated at er, received antibiotic for any infection and now treating wound at home.

I : I am glad that you went to the er and received treatment. Increased swelling or a hard knot could be caused by an inflammatory reaction or worsening infection. If it is more painful, more red, the patient had red streaks or fever then it would be reasonable to have it rechecked. If it is just hard and not getting worse then it is most likely your body causing healing around the area, similar to scar tissue.

Have it evaluated.: Brown recluse bites can be serious. Have it evaluated and get the appropriate treatment.
