A member asked:

Pain in my right kneecap i have been climbing 150 to 300 flights of stairs per week for the past 3 plus years. my right kneecap is tender, and it hurts somewhat - especially when i initially walk upstairs. can it be arthritus?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, : Yes, it could be arthritis, or it could be bursitis (inflammation of the sac of fluid near the knee). You can try taking advil (ibuprofen) (if you can tolerate advil (ibuprofen)), and icing it, but if that doesn't help you may need to see a doctor for an evaluation. An orthopedic specialist would be ideal. (you must be in amazing shape overall to climb that many stairs, amazing).
