A member asked:

Can i take antibiotics and cold medicine at the same time? i'm taking antibiotics for an ear infection, but have just come down with a really bad chest cold. can i take otc cold medicine, like mucinex (guaifenesin) at the same time? #nqlu

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mucinex (guaifenesin) : Mucinex (guaifenesin) is compatible with all antibiotics. Keep in mind that cold medications can only improve symptoms temporarily and do not actively fight respiratory infections. Some cold medicines, like antihistamnes, may actually delay the improvement in a cold. If your symptoms are worsening or extending to a new area you should be sure to contact your doctor to keep him/her aware of your change in status.
