Gum : Gum tissue surrounds all of the teeth in the oral cavity. An infection of the gum can be localized to the gum tissue itself (gingivitis), or spread beneath the gum tissue into the bone surrounding the teeth causing loosesness (periodontitis), or in some cases spread into the bloodstream causing a systemic body infection requiring antibiotic treatment.
