The Good News: The good news: a meniscus tear is repairable and most likely to heal in this age group. I can't determine from your question if a meniscus tear has been diagnosed. If it has, and your son has had 2 years of knee pain, surgery may be a reasonable option. I can add a comment later if you would like to add any additional info.
