Usually : Usually sinus grafting is done under I.V. Sedation in the surgeons office. It is very rare for a patient to have general anesthesia for this procedure. I completely understand your concern and fear of what has to be done for the implants, but if IV sedation has worked well in the past you should be fine. You should discuss with your surgeon if general anesthesia is an option, or how deeply you are sedated for the procedure. The surgeons who perform this procedure have specialized training in sedation and anesthesia, and should be able to make you very comfortable.

Yes: We sinus graft regularly with local anesthetic only but if you are terrified then conscious sedation or general anesthesia may be appropriate.

It is an option: Many surgeons offer a number of sedation options, including general anesthesia for their patients. Some patients, such as yourself who are acutely apprehensive about any dental procedure do better under general anesthesia where you are not aware of the procedure and have no recall. You need to discuss your apprehension with your dentist and/or surgeon so the right anesthetic can be planned.

Combination: This depends on the surgeon and the procedure. A more involved procedure may involve some sedatives administered to make your experience more pleasurable. Talk to your surgeon and anesthesiologist about your concerns. Together you can come up with a treatment for you.

Use IV sedation..: General anesthesia is rarely indicated for sinus graft surgery. Iv sedation is what i would consider if you're anxious. This way, you're completely comfortable, won't remember anything, and won't have tubes down your throat. Furthermore, you'll recover faster and have less side effects from the anesthesia. Although local anesthetic can be used to perform a sinus graft, i prefer IV sedation.
