How do you check out a counselor? how do you find qualifactions and background of a counselor, psychologist and so on? i need to know how many years they been one, if they are doing a good job, are they experience, have they been in trouble and so on.

If : If you want to know information about the qualifications of a psychiatrist you can check the site you are currently on (avvo). There are similar sites for other types of behavioral health providers. For instance, do an on line search for "psychologist reviews" in your state. I find personal recommendations from other people to be especially helpful. If you were really concerned about things like "have they been in trouble" you could always check with their state licensing board.

Verify license: If you just need the basic information contact the board where they got their license. If you don't know which board it is ask the therapist. Usually it is as simple as entering the therapist's name into the board's website. If you need more specific information ask the therapist, if the therapist doesn't have the qualifications you are looking for ask for them to give you a referral. Good luck.
