PsychMD vs psych...: Psychiatrists are medical doctors (M.D.) who attend college, 4 years of medical school, then 4 years of training "residency" in psychiatry. A psychiatrist can provide psychotherapy &medical management. Psychologists are pH.D. Doctors who, after college, complete graduate school (usually 4-6 years) studying research &/or clinical psychology. Counselors usually have masters degree (lcsw, mft).

MD, PHD, Masters : A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (md or do) and is trained in anatomy, psychotherapy and medications, a psychologist holds a phd and is trained in psychotherapy and psychological testing. A counselor is trained in psychotherapy only.

Therapy vs meds: Speaking very generally, most psychologists hold either a PhD or a PsyD degree (I hold both) and practice psychotherapy. Psychiatrists hold either an MD or a DO degree, and they prescribe psychotropic medications, and generally do not do all that much therapy these days, but years ago psychiatrists would do both. Social workers, psychiatrists, and psychologists all do counseling/psychotherapy.
