Can a child take an iron supplement (ferrous sulfate) while taking prednisone? my 1 year old was diagnosed with itp on wed. he has had 2 doses of prednisolone. about 2 weeks before this diagnosis he was slightly anemic and was given the iron supplement

Yes: Iron and Prednisolone is ok. I would be wary of starting a child on a steroid who is also anemic. While steroids can be used for itp, i would want to really, really, make sure there was not another process going on that would explain the anemia and low platelets. I would want a peds hem/onc doctor involved if they are not - at least as a phone consult from your child's doc to talk about the plan.
