Even : Even though doctors have noticed that meniere's disease can run in families, this is not necessarily the case for everyone. Meniere's is one of those medical mystery diseases we wish we knew more about. There are many theories as to what causes it such as genetics, viral illnesses, autoimmune disease, or allergies. In all likelihood it's probably caused by a combination of multiple things that just haven't been pinpointed yet.

The : The real answer is in most cases we are unable to identify an etiology for meniere's disease. The cause is idiopathic, or anotherwords we dont know the cause. Your mother certainly could have the deisease even though there is no family history.
