Females : Females between the ages of 9 to 13 should get roughly 1600 cal/day if sedentary, 1600-1800 cal/day if moderately active and 1800-2200 cal/day if very active. It's important to make sure kids eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat and dairy.

Nature does well: Don't worry about calories. Healthy intake is 2-4 meals and 1+ snacks each day composed of fresh produce, whole grains, nuts, seeds, beans, nontoxic seafood, lean beef/poultry, and whole fat dairy. Such a diet should provide sufficient macronutrients (protein, fat, carbs) and micronutrients (vit/minerals) to meet your child's daily needs. Activity drives appetite.
