Dental : Dental xrays show a the teeth and part of the upper and lower jaw in great detail, but their field of view is limited. It sounds like your dentist saw something at the edge of an image, but couldn't see enough of it to know what's there. If he or she thought it looked odd, then you should probably get a panorex study or a ct scan, as those studies can show the whole jaw and fill in the missing information.

See oral surgeon: See the oral surgeon for an examination. They may order additional studies/ images to further evaluate this area. Don't wait or take a chance -- find out what it is.

Further evaluation : You need a further evaluation. If this is above an upper molar, they may be referring to the jawbone or your sinus cavity. If this was your general dentist, you should see an oral surgeon who typically will have a panoramic or 3d ct scanner and should be able to determine if you have a problem that needs to be addressed.
