With a catheter: An electrical study of the heart is first performed using catheters passed from the veins in the legs, arms or neck. This study helps document the wpw. A special catheter is then used to "map" the location of the extra electrical connection that causes the wpw. That same catheter can be used to destroy the extra connection, either by burning or freezing the abnormal connection.

EPS: In an electrophysiology lab, several catheters are placed in your veins and arteries under local anesthesia and sedation. They're glided into specific areas of your heart where radio-frequency energy is applied to destroy tiny segments of tissue that conduct abnormal impulses through your heart. Voila!
