A member asked:

Will my child be psychologically damaged if he has nightmares all of the time?

Likely a stress sx: Nightmares are more likely a stress symptom than a cause. Instability in life events, school, family etc. Can bring out events.Even things seen on tv can trigger events. These are different than night terrors that are considered a sleep deprivation sx. (these kids don't wake up easily if you touch them during an event).Discuss these with your doc and see if additional workup is needed.

No: Nightmares may originate, in part, from psychological stressors, but do no themselves, cause damage. Nightmares are a normal part of sleep for all humans. If you find your child having more than 1-2 per week, talk it over with your physician.

NO: Nightmares are not bad for you (or ur child)... They are, however, a communication of sort about internal discomfort, especially when frequent. Since you mention that your child has them all the time, please consult with his/her pediatrician or a psychologist... To help him/her process whatever he/she is needing to process...Wishing you well...
