Often : Often times the antibiotic given to treat a UTI does not work. This happens because the bacteria is resistant to the drug (bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) in this case). Typically a urine culture will be done, this test will reveal if a UTI is present and what bacteria is causing it and what antibiotics will work. Hopefully your doctor performed this test. If so then a medication adjustment can be made as deemed necessary. Also consider you may have something else going on like vaginal infecion, kidney stones, etc. Please see your doctor. Best of luck and happy holidays.

See below: You could be infected with a bacteria resistant to the Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) you are receiving. If it hasn't already been done get a urinalysis and urine culture and sensitivity. If you have had repeated infections get a kidney and bladder ultrasound.
