Carpal : Carpal tunnel is only one of many wrist maladies my patients come to talk to me about when their hands hurt. Classically, however, carpal tunnel doesn't exactly present the way you've described. If you wanted to try a wrist brace at night to see if it improves, it wouldn't hurt you, nor put you at greater risk for delaying a proper diagnosis. It sounds more like you have a chronic tendinitis, or possibly arthritis. A doctor can order the right kind of imaging to figure that out, and this is the kind of thing that improves a great deal in physical therapy. Sometimes i recommend anti-inflammatory meds if there are no contraindications in your case to use them. There is also now an anti-inflammatory gel that is helpful, although it's expensive if your insurance doesn't cover it (diclofenac gel).

Wouldn’t hurt: It would not hurt to be evaluated to get an accurate diagnosis and to ensure nothing further needs to be done. Multiple potential causes.
