There : There are a number of things that could cause someone to pass out - the most serious of which in this age is a heart arrhythmia or seizure. You should call his doctor and have him evaluated for this episode. Other less concerning reasons to faint are vaso-vagal syncope and orthostatic hypotension, but the serious stuff has to be ruled out first. Better to be safe than sorry!

See below: "Passing out" 2 seconds without losing consciousness is not true passing out (syncope). I rather suspect absence seizure. Consultation with his PCP is recommended.
