Problem diagnosis: Normal brain "plumbing" includes structures that make cerebro-spinal fluid which travels though normal channels and is eventually pushed into areas where it is absorbed and thus recycled. Hydrocephalus occurs when the fluid builds up excessively. It can create pressure that can cause permanent brain injury.Surgery to create a bypass for fluid is sometimes curative. Any damage could be permanent.
