A member asked:

Should i get injectable dermal fillers if i previously had skin cancer? about 10 years ago, i had skin cancer. after a couple years of treatment, i was able to beat it without any recurrence....being in my upper 50's, i'm considering facial fillers to red

Dermal : Dermal fillers are safe in patients with a history of skin cancer. I would probably avoid getting a filler in the exact location as a previously treated skin cancer due to the fact that there is probably a slight scar at that location. I would want to be able to carefully follow that area for skin cancer occurence. I hope that helps!

It DEpends: Fillers are temporary"fixes". Be certain that you are treated by physician who won't inject areas of possible malignancy.

Should be ok: Injectable fillers should not have any impact on skin cancer. The filler is injected into the deeper dermis.

Should be ok: There is no data to suggest that filer would increase your recurrence rate. I would however advise you against getting steroid injections in your skin cancer scar.

See plastic/derm MD: Dermal fillers for facial rejuvenation are safe and can be injected intradermally or as deep depot in some areas with excellent results. See a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist and they should be able to help you.

Facial Fillers Safe: Facial fillers should not influence the recurrence of skin cancer. It is injected into the fat layer or occasionally in the deep dermis.

Cancer and fillers: Having had cancer is not a contraindication to filler use. Discuss this issue with your surgeon and be sure to have your face evaluated by a board certified facial plastic surgeon with experience in injectables
