This : This degree of pain is unusual for pure musculoskeletal problems to the "ribs" of to the thoracic area. You are not giving much information but i would want to make sure you don't have another problem internally that coulb be causing problems. You need a comprehensive evaluation of your condition with a good review of systems.

Rib & back pain: I would recommend to see your physician. This can be back pain refering to the ribs, a slipped vertebral disk impinging on the spinal cord & nerves that go to the ribs. This may be also shingles, which can be tested for and treated by medication and a nerve block for pain relief. The worse case it maybe the big c. I would see your physician to find out what the cause is so treatment can be started.
