I'm 7th weeks pregnant and have a serious back pain. i'm using salonpas pain relieving. is it safe for my baby and the pregnancy i had heard that the ingredients in the product could cause birth defects. is it true?

Salonpas : Salonpas is a category c drug which means that not enough research has been conducted to know whether it is safe or not. I attached the salonpas website that advises speaking with your doctor prior to using it. Because it contains methylsalicylate, you should not take it at all in your last trimester because it could cause heart problems. You should call and discuss your pain with your ob-gyne. Pains during pregnancy should be taken seriously and your doctor may want to know about it. They will also be able to suggest other medications for your pain that will be safe for you and your baby.

Talk to your OB: Salonpas should be fine, but talk to your OB and they can help provide you with options for your pain.
