Sometimes: Progesterone is sometimes used in early pregnancy to decrease the risk of miscarriage but should only be used under the supervision of a physician.

Progesterone: I use progesterone fairly frequently for a low progesterone. There are some risk, but honestly I've been using 1st trimester progesterone for a very long time and never had an issue. I usually treat for level less than 8, but some OB's will treat with higher levels. I prefer prometrium (micronized progesterone).
