Weight : Weight lifting is an isometric exercise. Sports such as water skiing and wrestling also have an isometric element and may raise blood pressure, when one strains against a fixed resistance, blood pressure normally goes up. It may go up abnormally high in selected patients (you may be one of them) or in patients with baseline hypertension. In some cases, there may be associated symptoms such as headache, dizziness, or even passing out. You should follow the advice of your doctor or cardiologist regarding future weight lifting as well as management of the blood pressure elevation. However, you may find that you can do multiple repetitions of lifting lighter weights without blood pressure changes. Aerobic activity, such as walking, running, swimming, or cycling are usually ok and may actually have favorable effects on blood pressure.
