The : The intestine produce mucus which is excreted with fecal matter, however excretion of large amounts of mucus or 'blobs' is abnormal. Large amounts of mucus when having a bowel movement can be attributed to a few causitive factors: 1. A bacterial infection or sexually transmitted disease in the anal or GI tract 2. Onset or manifestation of irritable bowel syndrome, crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. These conditions are diagnosed by a doctor and require treatment. 3. Proctitis, inflammation of the anus as a result of infection or medical treatment such as radiation. It is important that you make an appointment with your doctor so that that causing factor can be identified and treated.

Diarrhea and mucus: Frequent bowel movements with mucus may be a sign of inflammation of the colon lining. It may signal colitis or possibly Inflammatory bowel disease. I would see your primary physician who may recommend a colonoscopy for your acute findings.
