A member asked:

If i need a septoplasty for a deviated septum, can i get a nose job at the same time?

Yes: Very commonly people undergoing septoplasty to improve breathing also want me to refine their tip, shorten their nose or remove a bump. The procedures are commonly performed together.

Yes: If a patient is going to have a septoplasty to improve nasal function and a cosmetic rhinoplasty, do both at the same time because the result will be better and it is safer to have one operation and one anesthetic.

Septoplasty: You can absolutely have a septoplasty and rhinoplasty performed at the same time - in fact it is very common. Make sure that your surgeon is well qualified to do both procedures because there are some who are great at one or the other, and some that are great at both. Doesn't hurt to get more than one opinion when considering rhinoplasty. Hope this helps!

Yes: One of the most common procedures for fellowship trained facial plastic surgeons is rhinoplasty combined with septoplasty and turbinate reduction. Especially in reduction rhinoplasty (big nose smaller), the airway must be opened to offset the smaller nose. It is usually considered cosmetic so insurance companies rarely cover nose reshaping. Yes: These are commonly performed together perhaps with possible exception such as large septal perforation.

Yes definitely: It is quite common to combine septoplasty surgery - which is done to improve the nasal airway- with esthetic rhinoplasty surgery. This combination may also save you money as the functional part- septoplasty- will usually be covered by health insurance.

Absolutely: If the septum is deviated and not corrected at the time of rhinoplasty your breathing may well end up worse! also, many times the cartilage from septal repair is used to reshape the nose in rhinoplasty.

Septorhinoplasty: Septoplasty is performed in the context of rhinoplasty very often. Discuss these issues with your surgeon and be sure your surgeon is a board certified facial plastic surgeon with expertise in these procedures.

Typically so: Adding a rhinoplasty to a septoplasty is a natural transition from a technical perspective. Some surgeons who perform septoplasty surgeries don't do cosmetic rhinoplasty, so ask. Also, insurance typically pays for septoplasty but often not rhinoplasty.
