I had artificial hips installed 19 years ago. the bearing surfaces are wearing out. should they be replaced? the hips work well, but are somewhat less smooth in movement. some additional pain.

Congratulations : Congratulations your total joints have lasted for an impressive amount of time. You should have them x-rayed and followed by a specialist with subspecialty training in total joint replacements.

Yes: At some point u should revise the hips and place a new bearing surface. If you wait to long the metal may break or loosen and you will need a much larger operation to fix the hips.
