This : This sounds like gerd (gastroesophageal reflux disease) aka acid reflux. When too much acid is produced in your stomach it flows back up into the esophagus causing burning and burping. Headaches can also result from this problem, but are not as common. Gerd can be managed by eating less acidic foods, spicy foods, chocolate and caffeine. Also acid blockers (i.e. Pepcid) or proton pump inhibitors (i.e.Prolosec otc) can be used to help reduce symptoms. On the other hand chest pressure can also be cardiac in origin. Things such as angina can mimic gerd. This occurs when your heart muscle is not getting enough oxygen, and can ultimately lead to a heart attack. I recommend making an appointment with your pcp (primary care provider) sooner rather than later. A more detailed history and physical along with diagnostic tests will provide a diagnosis, and treatment can be started.

GERD: This is a chronic disease that occurs when stomach acid or bile flows into the food pipe and irritates the lining. Acid reflux and heartburn more than twice a week may indicate GERD. Symptoms include burning pain in the chest that usually occurs after eating and worsens when lying down. Relief from lifestyle changes and over-the-counter medications is usually temporary.
