Minimal Discomfort: My patients typically experience mild discomfort for the first 1-2 days and can quickly transition off pain medication in that time frame. There is moderate swelling and some bruising that can occur, but should be resolved by the 7-10th days. Sutures usually stay in for about 5 days and do not hurt when then come out. Severe pain is rare should prompt you to see your surgeon right away.

A little: Most of my patients would say, i think, that it hurts less than they expected. The only surgical discomfort is the sting of the injections into the loose eyelid skin. There is no pain during the surgery. Afterwards, there is a little soreness, only. Overall, one of the least uncomfortable of the cosmetic surgeries i perform.

Tender not painful: Although that sounds trite. Eyelid surgery does not generally have a painful recovery. Your eyes may be sore or dry. True pain is not common and if it occurs may be a sign of a problem such as retrobulbar hematoma which requires urgent care.

It shouldn't!: After eyelid surgery, the area around your eyes may feel sore. The eyes can feel tired or dry in the days afer the procedure, but the pain should be minimal. On the other hand, if you have pain, especially severe or increasing pain associated with increasing swelling, contact your surgeon immediately, and let them see you. This can be a sign of internal blleding, and requires immediate treatment.

Not painful: Most people do not complain of much pain after eyelid surgery. It usually looks worse than it feels. You can expect swelling and perhaps some bruising for few days. Blurry vision is also not unusual due to the swelling in the area.

Not much!: Most patients take very little to no pain meds after an eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). While bruising may linger for a week or two, most can be back to light activities in two to three days. I refer to the downtime as more social than physical.

Eyelid surgery : Eyelid surgery is generally performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia. The postoperative pain is easily controlled with narcotic pain medication, ice compresses and head elevation. The procedure has very high patient satisfaction.
