Are sports drinks good for kids?

Not necessary: Sports drinks are not medically necessary unless the child is involved in highly cardiovascular (running, swimming, soccer, basketball, etc) sports for over an hour at a time. If so a sports drink can help replete electrolytes lost thru sweating. However stopping every 20 min or so for water breaks is better. Sports drinks contain a lot of sugar- think of them as a snack, not as health food.

Not really: They are just a hair shy of juices, which are nothing more then liquid candy. They serve no great purpose and have lots of sugar. Avoid them as much as you can.

Sports drinks: are generally not recommended for children because of the added calories. For most forms of exercise, water during and after is sufficient for re-hydration. See the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation. https://www.aap.org/en-us/about-the-aap/aap-press-room/pages/kids-should-not-consume-energy-drinks,-and-rarely-need-sports-drinks,-says-aap.aspx
