Short : Short answer: yes, you could be pregnant. Do a urine pregnancy test anytime you have irregular cycles. By "protection" do you mean condoms in addition to oral contraceptives? This, combined with the oral contraceptives would lower the possibility of pregnancy but never completely eliminates it altogether.

Don't worry: If you're taking the pills consistently without missing, it's not likely you would get pregnant. Keep taking your pills.. If you take your pills consistently at the same time every without ever missing, the failure rate is <1%. In typical use, the failure rate is 9%. Periods often get lighter over time with the pill-- a big advantage!
