Blood : Blood from the rectum should be taken very seriously. The fact that blood does not come out with bowel movement is a sign that the bleed could be from the surface area of the anus, as opposed to an internal GI bleed. Do you have a hemmorrhoid? However, it will be important to assess if your bowel movements contain blood. Signs of bloody stool are if your stool looks black, tarry, or sticky or if it looks like there are coffee grounds in your feces. It is better to be safe than sorry. See a doctor as you are noticing bright red blood. While it could be from an anal tear, it will be crucial to make sure you are not experiencing a GI bleed.

Blood per rectum: To assess the urgency of this i would want to know if you have pain, dizziness, heart palpitations. If you feel you can wait till monday then you may want to go to your family physician to begin figuring this out. If you feel any chest pain or palpitations and if the bleeding is not stopping going to the er may be a good choice tonight.
