24 : 24 hours before a pet scan, you will want to stick with a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. Foods to avoid are: cereals, pastas, breads, rice, beans, gravies, fruit and fruit juice, jams and jellies, candy and sweets, chips, honey, milk, starchy vegetables, alcohol, and coffee and tea. Do not consume caffeine, chew gum, or do any strenuous exercise 24 hours before your pet scan. 6-8 hours before the test you may be instructed to not eat anything. If you are a diabetic, you may need to discuss your diet and medications with your doctor before the test. Low carbohydrate die: 12 hours before appointment eat a low carbohydrate diet. Foods that can be eaten include: meat, hard cheese, tofu, eggs, butter and vegetables with no starch. Some foods not allowed include: cereal, pasta, milk, breads and other sugars. Scheduled for late afternoon and can eat breakfast before the scan, it must be a low carbohydrate diet as well.
