With : With any injection, pain is possible. Ask your doctor about the option of injecting 'lidocaine' prior to receiving sculptra. Lidocaine will assist in numbing the site and reduce 'stinging'. If you are not allergic to lidocaine, this may be a great option to help you tolerate the procedure. After the injections, you will experience some post procedure facial swelling as well, which can be painful.

Mild to moderate: I have not had any trouble with any of my patients not tolerating a sculptra treatment. I mix my product with Lidocaine and before injection, have the patient apply cold compresses to the skin for a few minutes just before injection. Pain is usually described as mild to moderate and decreased as the injections progress. Talk to your doctor about this before treatment and express your concerns.

Consider Sedation : I had to research what sculptra was and how it is used. Since the surgeon is injecting the sculptra below your skin, perhaps intravenous moderate or deep sedation will help you be comfortable, be still, and not even remember the procedure.

Yes and No: The plastic surgeon will give you something before the injections, but you will not have a full anesthetic.

A variety of options: There are many different options when it comes to improving the injection experience: ice compresses or blowing cold air, distraction vibrating devices, tropical numbing cream, local anesthetic injections or regional nerve blocks as well as local anesthetic mixed in with the product (off label), oral sedatives and more. Discuss your fears with your physician.

Painless Sculptra: Sculptra can be injected almost painlessly. Ask your doctor to give you a numbing cream to put on the face in advance and ask her/him to use depot technique. That is the least painful technique. Also ask for using an ice pack on the face for 5minutes immediately before the injections.

Some pain: Scultra is an injection and like all injections you can expect some mild pain. Most patients tolerate it very well and the pain is not enough to keep them from further injections. Topical anesthesia can be used, along with ice and the sculptra should be mixed with lidocaine as well to increase the comfort.
